President Joko Widodo officially received the visit of Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio, on Friday, April 29, 2022, at the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java. In a joint press statement after the bilateral meeting between the two countries, the Head of State expressed his appreciation for PM Kishida’s commitment to continue to strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and Japan.
“I welcome back to Indonesia to Prime Minister Kishida. It is an honor for me to receive Your Excellency’s visit and I welcome Your Excellency’s commitment to continue to strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and Japan,” said the President.
President Jokowi said that the governments of Indonesia and Japan agreed to continue to increase cooperation in various fields. One of them is in the trade sector, the two countries agreed to intensify negotiations on the IJEPA (Indonesia Japan Economic Partnership Agreement) and reduce trade barriers to make it more profitable for both countries.”Specifically, I would like to request the opening of broad access for Indonesian agricultural and fishery products to the Japanese market,” he said.
Meanwhile, in the investment sector, President Jokowi welcomes the expansion of Japanese automotive companies such as Toyota and Mitsubishi which will make Indonesia an automotive hub for the region. However, the President also hopes that there will be additional new Japanese investment in other fields and make Indonesia an important part of the global supply chain for Japanese industries.
In addition, President Jokowi also welcomes cooperation in the infrastructure sector and hopes for the participation of the Japanese government in other infrastructure projects in the country, such as in the Capital of the Archipelago and Ambon Port.
“In the marine and fisheries sector, I welcome Japan’s participation in the construction of marine and fishery centers in Natuna and Biak which have been completed and the commitment to building similar centers in Sabang, Moa, in Saumlaki, and Morotai,” said the President.
Another sector is that Indonesia and Japan are also cooperating in the energy and environmental sectors. President Jokowi hopes that there will be an accelerated follow-up to the energy transition cooperation through investment in new and renewable energy with the Japanese government. The President also emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation in the employment sector, including training for prospective Indonesian migrant workers.
In addition to increasing cooperation, President Jokowi and PM Kishida also discussed regional and global issues, particularly regarding Ukraine. President Jokowi reiterated Indonesia's call for all countries to consistently respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of other countries.
"The Ukraine war must be stopped immediately and we have agreed to create a conducive situation so that negotiations and a peaceful solution can be reached immediately," said the President
Regarding Myanmar, President Jokowi emphasized the importance of cooperation between ASEAN and Japan to ensure that the five points of ASEAN consensus can be implemented. President Jokowi and PM Kishida also discussed Indo-Pacific cooperation to become a peaceful, stable and prosperous region

Presiden Joko Widodo menerima secara resmi kunjungan Perdana Menteri Jepang Kishida Fumio, pada Jumat, 29 April 2022, di Istana Kepresidenan Bogor, Jawa Barat. Dalam keterangan pers bersama usai pertemuan bilateral kedua negara, Kepala Negara menyampaikan apresiasinya atas komitmen PM Kishida untuk terus memperkokoh hubungan bilateral Indonesia dan Jepang.
“Saya menyampaikan selamat datang kembali di Indonesia kepada Perdana Menteri Kishida. Suatu kehormatan bagi saya menerima kunjungan Yang Mulia dan saya menyambut baik komitmen Yang Mulia untuk terus memperkokoh hubungan bilateral antara Indonesia dan Jepang,” ucap Presiden.
Presiden Jokowi menyebut bahwa pemerintah Indonesia dan Jepang sepakat untuk terus meningkatkan kerja sama di berbagai bidang. Salah satunya di bidang perdagangan, kedua negara sepakat mengintensifkan negosiasi IJEPA (Indonesia Japan Economic Partnership Agreement) dan mengurangi hambatan perdagangan agar lebih menguntungkan kedua negara.
“Secara khusus, saya menyampaikan permintaan pembukaan akses yang luas bagi produk pertanian dan perikanan Indonesia ke pasar Jepang,” ungkapnya.
Sedangkan di bidang investasi, Presiden Jokowi menyambut baik ekspansi perusahaan otomotif Jepang seperti Toyota dan Mitsubishi yang akan menjadikan Indonesia sebagai hub otomotif untuk kawasan. Meski demikian, Presiden turut berharap adanya tambahan investasi baru Jepang di bidang lainnya serta menjadikan Indonesia sebagai bagian penting dari rantai pasok global industri asal Jepang.
Selain itu, Presiden Jokowi juga menyambut baik kerja sama di bidang infrastruktur dan berharap partisipasi pemerintah Jepang pada proyek-proyek infrastruktur lainnya di Tanah Air, seperti di Ibu Kota Nusantara dan Ambon Port.
“Di sektor kelautan dan perikanan, saya menyambut baik partisipasi Jepang dalam pembangunan sentra kelautan dan perikanan di Natuna dan Biak yang telah selesai dan komitmen pembangunan sentra-sentra serupa di Sabang, Moa, di Saumlaki, dan Morotai,” tutur Presiden.
Sektor lainnya adalah Indonesia dan Jepang turut bekerja sama di sektor energi dan lingkungan hidup. Presiden Jokowi berharap adanya percepatan tindak lanjut kerja sama transisi energi melalui investasi energi baru terbarukan dengan pemerintah Jepang. Presiden juga menekankan pentingnya penguatan kerja sama di sektor ketenagakerjaan, termasuk pelatihan bagi calon pekerja migran Indonesia.
Selain peningkatan kerja sama, Presiden Jokowi dan PM Kishida juga membahas terkait isu kawasan dan isu global, khususnya mengenai Ukraina. Presiden Jokowi kembali menekankan ajakan Indonesia agar semua negara menghormati kedaulatan dan integritas wilayah negara lain secara konsisten.
“Perang Ukraina harus segera dihentikan dan kita bersepakat untuk menciptakan situasi yang kondusif agar perundingan dan solusi damai dapat segera tercapai,” tegas Presiden.
Terkait Myanmar, Presiden Jokowi menekankan pentingnya kerja sama antara ASEAN dan Jepang untuk memastikan bahwa five point of consensus ASEAN dapat dijalankan. Presiden Jokowi dan PM Kishida juga membahas kerja sama Indo Pasifik agar menjadi kawasan yang damai, stabil dan sejahtera.
